Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome back!  We hope everyone is doing well in the new year.  School is back in full swing, and we're having a great time here in the multi-age.

In reading, the students finished up their literature circle final poster projects.  Next up, we will be working a little out of our anthologies as well as continuing comprehension strategy practice in our SRA booklets.  In addition, the third graders are hard at work on their genre of the month book reports.

In language arts, students are doing a variety of writing.  While the 4th and 5th graders will continue work on formal essays like summaries, responses to literature, and persuasive essays, they will soon be joining the 3rd graders with a fun letter writing project.  We will doing a pen pal project with some kids from a different school...more to come soon.

In Social Studies, we are happy to announce we have set the date for our San Francisco presentations!  We invite all the parents and friends to come see our presentations on Tuesday, January 24th at the start of the school day.  Students will share their amazing research reports, and you can learn a few new interesting facts about different landmarks in our fair city of San Francisco.

In Science, students wrapped up their investigation on Vitamin C and learned some of its important functions.  We are now looking at nutrition labels, ingredients, and how to put together a healthy and well balanced meal.  In addition, the fifth graders began a review of past material with our "Mixtures and Solutions" unit from two years ago.  They will repeat a few experiments from that unit to brush up on various concepts.

In non-academic news, we had a fun spirit day on Friday.  All the grade levels at Oak Knoll were assigned a color, and we had rally in the multi.  We loved to see all the enthusiasm.
